Sports, Inclusion and RedemptionDr David Lakisa, who has a PhD in managing Pasifika migration in the sporting workplace, said that achieving cultural understanding and respect in sport was crucial to helping it filter down into the community.The inaugural Global Pacific Arts, Culture & Sport Conference will be held at The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney, on Wednesday, 7th June 2023.    The theme of the conference is ‘Navigating Pacific Contribution Across Culture, Arts and Sport’.  The conference is bringing together industry, community, government, and expert leaders to accelerate the intersectionality work across Pacific cultural education, skills and diversity training, innovation, enterprise and investment in Pacific arts, culture, and sport.First Nations cultural circle: Educating the educators Aboriginal, Māori and Pasifika groups joined in the first cultural conference of its kind in a NSW school.

about us

David Lakisa (PhD)

Dr David Lakisa has worked across private and public sectors of educational leadership and management for the past two decades. He is of Samoan (Polynesian) ancestry and completed his PhD on 'Pacific Diversity Management' at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Business School. He also completed a Masters in International Sport Management at Southern Cross University (SCU) and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

In an Australian first, he was appointed as the inaugural Pacific Islander Coaching and Development officer at New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) (2007-2011). A former physical education secondary school teacher, David was also been a sessional academic at Western Sydney University in the School of Education (2008 - 2016). He is also a member of the Australian Pasifika Education Network (APEN) reference group and Independent Director on the Queensland Rugby League (QRL) South East Region Board. In sum, David has been heavily involved in numerous education, sporting, government and community-based initiatives for Pacific Islanders and Māori in Australia and across the Pacific region for the past two decades.
